Shadowing at the University of Vermont Medical Center

In March of 2019 I was fortunate enough to shadow Dr. Whittney D. Barkhuff in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at UVMMC. During this experience I developed an understanding of the roles of different medical staff on the unit through observing two Caesarean sections and a natural birth. At the same time, I gained a knowledge of proper communication with patient families. Throughout the eight hours I shadowed, I was constantly reaffirmed that one day I would love to work in a hospital.
